Guess it's been about a week since I'v posted anything on this build. Had to take care of some things that need attention but got put off for some more important things( like working on a car.)
Back to the car, have been working on a plethora( not the word I wanted to use but couldn't spell it- how the hell you look up a word you can't spell in the dictionary? :cursing: ) of problems that hadn't been taken care of.
Got the hood to close by reworking hinges- doesn't snap shut like it should but will deal with in in the spring before painting. Hood closed with all the air cleaner stuff in place, had to do some reworking but just about same set up as pervious pics. Got the 4 cross brace rods to work by raising the fender mount points 2" and bending the rods a little. :mischievous:
Ran into some other problems that I may have found earlier if I checked. This is the first time I've done this much to a car so I may have checked things out of sequence which led to delays. The problems would have still been there, just may have found them in a more efficent mannor. Is there a master check list for this shit? :eyebrow:
Tried to pull the valve covers for the oil priming, and found the drive's side wouldn't clear the brake booster by about 1/4 to 3/16", had already had to relocate/rotate the wiper motor to clear- should have checked every thing at that time. :weeping:
Don't want to have to pull booster every time the cover might need to come off so I looked into getting a 9" double diaphragm booster instead of the stock 11". Couldn't find one that had the same mount stud length and rod length, found some with one ok but not the other. Parts guy had printed Cardone master catalog but no list by specs only applications, we pulled the few he had in stock but no luck. Guess they cover any liability by listing by application so some guy doesn't try to cobble together something that may or may not work then try to sue them if it doesn't. So I got a rebuild 11", which I was going to get soon anyway and a new master cylinder, all nice a shinnie- no clean up.
Spent last few days doing the electric and vac hook ups. Since I eliminated some of the emissions equipment( like most of it) thus some switches and the A/C ,there are some wires that will not be used. Also some vac switches are gone, think I have figured the reroutes and connections needed now, good thing I have the full factory manuals. Did one screw up by eliminating the cruise control, didn't realize the vac line also provides all vac for under dash stuff-like A/C heater, and park brake release, :irked: so I need to rehook up that line, used the though firewall holes for the oil pressure and water temp lines, but think there is enough room to drill new hole.
I think most of the vac and temp switches on this car and this time period were simple enough to eliminate and not run into things being turned off or opening a circuit, but it takes a little time to rework every thing atleast for me. :scratchchin:
Was under car hooking up ground strap when I reached up and grabbed the engine crossmember to pull myself out and felt something not right. Found the fuel return line and fuel tank vent line crushed in 2 spots. Was from the deeper oil pan and the effort to install engine, thought I checked this but maybe not, brake line is ok. Think Ted had mentioned checking this area on a post. Well its checked now bigtime, will have to cut out section and splice connector, with the way the factory routed these 2 lines I maybe able to pull them and reroute for more slack. Will be more of a PITA than difficult. Glad I don't do this stuff for a living! :yikes:
Putting in disb tomorrow and doing final wiring, should be getting close, need to get the video camera working soon.
