Forgot to mention, there IS one thing that the MS1 can't do, and that is control a stepper type (i.e. GM) IAC motor. In that case you can either adapter a Ford PWM-type valve, or bite the bullet and upgrade to the MS2. The MS2 *is* better from a hardware standpoint but as far as the benefits go, it's more hype than real benefit.
