What budget based engines will fit real easily into a 64 Caddy DeVille

Well after searchin through all the forums on this site, I decided to just pop the question to you guys.

I have always wanted an older 63/64 Caddy, preferably convertible. However my budget right now is kinda on the low end, so my options are limited.

So my hope (and it looks pretty possible) is to find a car that year, conv or hard top, that’s in decent shape, meaning I don’t necessarily care about the paint, or how immaculate the interior is or how original it is. (Just so I can have one and drive it)

The thing is, the one’s that I’m finding pretty much need an engine swap/rebuild. Seeing as how I’m pretty familiar with Chevy small blocks, my thought is to just throw maybe a 350 with a t400 in it for awhile until I have the money to purty her up.

1) My question is, what engines and from what years will go nicely into her without any “significant modifications?

2) Maybe there are easier and more cost effective engines than the 350 to install?

3) Also, are there any engine swap kits out there to make the swap easier?

Any other ideas you guys might have will be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks

Stick with the one that came in the car, drive it and have some fun    ;)

I'd check around some local machine shops - find one that will assemble as well as rebuild the stocker.  Will probably be cheaper than you might think.  At least when you start adding up potential swapping costs, these often get forgotten about.  Driveshaft mods, pan mods, mounting fabrication are just a few.

The 350 will be way underpowered for the car.    As was pointed out the cost of the 350 swap would be the same or more than rebuilding your stock engine and the stock engine will have more TQ for that heavy car.
