  Hi guys
Well, the rain stayed away and we had a great day today.Weather conditions at the track were 75 degrees, light tailwind and 2800' density altitude. That's about as good as it gets around here in the spring.
Kendall had work and school stuff going on so I didn't have to worry about him besting my times today for a change, lol.
I set the timing at 32 deg, mixed a couple gallons of leaded 110 with a couple of 91 pump gas,and fired it up for a couple warmup laps down the return road, onto the big end of the track past the finish line, and back again. On the big end I idled along at 10 mph or so in 1st and nailed it.Incinerated the slicks instantly.I took it as a good omen. Tried it at 30 mph in 2nd.....same result. :D Clicked third at about 60 mph, stood on it and it fishtailed slightly and stayed loose. Now it has my attention!
Got in line about 30 minutes later, and while doing the burnout I thought about taking an easy pass......but only for a second and that thought passed. Staged the car, brought the rpm up to 1500 and nailed it.The starting line was a little green,so it gave a couple small hops, but the 60' was 1.54,same as always. Then that sucker nailed me in the seat and the shift light was on(5600)like right now! I clicked second and it just felt like an extension of 1st....no reduction in acceleration rate at all.The light winked again and third gear just kept pulling HARD and 100 feet before the stripe the shift light was on again. :yikes: This was new territory for sure and I couldn't wait to see the slip.

      10.39 at 129.05 with a 1.54 60' :D
I was slightly pumped to say the least!
Next pass the car was warmed up better(first pass is always slower).
    10.33 at 128.46 with a 1.49 60'  :D
    Then....
    10.27 at 130.17 with a 1.51 60'  :D :D
    Then
    10.26 at 129.27 with a 1.48 60'
Now we're talkin',and so is everyone at the track. The T was surrounded in the pits for most of the rest of the day,and I had a ball.
Went three more passes, all between 10.27 and 10.32,and at 129 mph give or take a bit.It is a beast and I love it.Hooks hard, lifts the wheels 2-4" and goes straight forward NOW.
.......And it didn't blow up either.

    Terry
PS- the Edelbrock will pull past 5400  :D :D :D

I stayed up late for this post....fandamntastic. Nines aren't that far away.......low nines if its a bottle baby. What gears are you running? Is it radio tuning time at the light or is the engine still pulling, wanting more rpm?
George

Terry
Congratulations!!
Again you have out done yourself, gone faster, had more fun , and didnt blow it up!! :yikes:
It does show that you put lots of thought into your engines.
No wonder you are the Grand PooBaa of the CSOB.
Is it time to change gears in the 9"?

Charles, turning a slight shade of green, with envy :D

Excellent as usual Terry.  Maybe a trip to sea level for an attempt on the 9's? That would be real close wouldn't it?

Great Job Terry

Sure wish you could make it to Potters. I would love to see the T in person, and better yet at the track. Keep up the good work you CSOB!

dude, thats hauling ass for whats maybe the most unareodynamic car at your track! i ran my fiat landspeed racer once without the nose on it,in the maxton mile,it was 25 mph slower with the wheels and the engine stuck out there!GREAT JOB!

Thanks Guys....I kinda slept in this morning. :guilty:
A sea-level pass would be very close to 9 sec territory,Sean.I was thinking about that on the way home last night.

George and Charlie- the 3.50 gears still feel right. The launch really wants the gear, and the motor is not done at the stripe. It would pull to 5800 for sure, maybe more.  :yikes: That sucker gains 10 mph from the 1000' mark to the finish line and is still pulling just as hard when I back out of it at 5600 or so.
A real high $ race converter that would flash to 4000 and still be tight on top would give me 2 tenths.... no question in my mind at all.I just won't give the grand to buy one-against the rules (csob).
A powerglide would likely do the same thing, but the wild launch would be gone..... :weeping:

A 'glide/converter combination would net me a 9 sec pass,I'm sure of it.That's not really what I want to do though,so I probably won't go that way unless I get a wild hair or something.
Anyway,I'm very much in awe of what the Big Cad will do with so little exotica.Stock rods, stock pistons(turned 'round backwards),used rings,a sock fuzz special cam Donovan has had in the closet for 15 years(263 at 50 on 112),and an Edelbrock with an 850 Holley. And it hasn't blown up...yet. :D It may be a bomb, but I'll take my chances. The "old" motor is ready and willing to go back in at any time.
Oh-  Cooke's valvecovers were a huge hit. That sucker looks wide as a Hemi and blew the minds of the high school guys(special high school race yesterday).Even the ricers were paying homage to the great Caddy.
And I received the greatest compliment ever at the track yesterday.A fellow who builds engines and suspension for other racers as well as his own,and does it with real ingenuity and as inexpensively as possible, was talking to me in the pits.He had four cars he was involved with there yesterday, and they were all kicking ass in there respective classes. He allowed as how if he owned my motor he wouldn't trade it for anything he had built, and when he left he said "Good Job-You're my hero".  :cloud9:
      So-
Thanks to all you guys who share info here-even posts that might not seem relevant to my projects are a big help sometimes. The stuff learned here and from personal calls to some of you is what makes that T go fast.
        Terry

I forgot to give credit for what may be the most important part on the motor. My buddy Mike who finished up the porting and did the final valve job on the heads! I don't know what they flow or are capable of,but I'll bet they don't give up much to any iron head out there....... BIG AIR !
  Terry

Real Cool Terry -were you at Great Bend or down here?

"Caddys are nothing but a boat anchor" Maybe. But that boat anchor keeps getting faster.
Terry if you can tune/tweak that thing into a 9.XX pass without spending a boatload of money doing it would be very cool. Then again maybe not, because that would mean that the price of cores would go up again, I know I'm cheap.
George

    Cadiac-
I was down in your neck of the woods..... didn't you hear the car? lol

There were a hundred drooling guys who would have traded their left one for my boat anchor yesterday. lol

Congrats, Terry!
I sure wish you'd take a trip somewhere to catch you a good "altitude" track and get that 9 second slip under your belt. There's bound to be only a handful of guys ever do that with Caddy power. At any rate; you ought to be proud of yourself. You have a very "unique" car with the aerodynamics of a "telephone-booth", and it don't do nothing but haul a**.
                                                                                                  Proud for you,
                                                                                                            Cooke

Too cool Terry,

Well I have to say you must be having the most fun with your Caddy motors.   8)   As someone said aerodynamics have to be starting to really work against you at a buck thirty.  Hmm ever thought of making it a convertible with a more aerodynamic windshield.  :D  But hey what does it weight?  I bet before the summer is out your signature will say member of the nine second club.

I have wondered what the difference would be if that car was topless or at least had a sloped windshield. You know that flat front catches a ton of wind!
