The Cadillac Celestiq stands as a declaration of ultra luxury and customization, a bespoke, hand built electric vehicle that signals the brand’s return to elite coach built craftsmanship. Reflecting its exclusivity and the level of personalization offered, the vehicle carries an initial price point starting in the low $400,000 range before extensive custom tailoring. Physically, the Celestiq is an imposing machine, measuring an immense 217.2 inches in overall length with a long 130.2 inch wheelbase, dimensions fitting for a true flagship sedan. Its body structure is a marvel of engineering, using an aluminum space frame with large sand-cast sections and exterior panels crafted from carbon fiber and sheet molded composite, a process that ensures both structural integrity and a low curb weight relative to its size, though it remains a substantial vehicle.

The vehicle’s performance is built upon General Motors’ groundbreaking Ultium platform, an innovative, modular, and scalable electric vehicle architecture. The Celestiq utilizes a dual motor, all wheel drive propulsion system that generates a substantial 655 horsepower and 646 lb-ft of torque. This power enables the car to achieve a rapid 0-60 miles per hour acceleration time of 3.7 seconds. The system is fed by a robust 111 kWh Ultium battery pack which provides an estimated EPA driving range of 303 miles on a full charge, with DC fast charging capability peaking near 200 kilowatts. The Ultium cells are laid horizontally within the pack to contribute to the vehicle’s long, low proportions and its lower center of gravity, which enhances handling, and the platform incorporates a wireless battery management system that streamlines complexity and reduces overall wiring.

The dynamic driving experience is delivered by a suite of chassis technologies, chief among them the Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 system. Often cited as the world's fastest reacting suspension technology, this system utilizes a magnetorheological fluid within the shock absorbers, which contains tiny metallic particles. Electronic sensors scan the road surface and driver inputs up to 1,000 times per second, instantly sending an electric current to electromagnets in the dampers to alter the fluid’s viscosity and thus the shock's stiffness. This near instantaneous adjustment is crucial, working in concert with the Active Air Suspension, which automatically adjusts vehicle height, the Active Roll Control system that minimizes side to side body lean during turns, and Active Rear Steering, which pivots the rear wheels to optimize low speed maneuverability and high speed stability. Even the exterior integrates active elements, including Active Aero Grille Shutters and an Active Aero Rear Spoiler that adjusts its angle to balance front and rear aerodynamics.

Inside the four seat cabin, the Celestiq is a technological showcase that incorporates over 275 patented technologies, including an extensive use of 3D printed components. The dash is defined by a massive, pillar-to-pillar, 55-inch HD interactive display that serves both driver and passenger, utilizing a digital privacy filter to prevent distraction. Overhead is the segment first Four-Zone Smart Glass Roof, which uses Suspended Particle Device technology to allow each occupant to individually adjust the transparency of their specific quadrant. Comfort is managed by the ClimateSense four zone microclimate system, providing individualized control over seat heating, cooling, and even neck scarf ventilation, reducing the dependence on the main HVAC system. Finally, the passenger experience is completed by a 38-speaker AKG Studio Reference audio system with Dolby Atmos capability, all integrated within a space featuring intricate LED lighting sequences and high end materials selected through an exhaustive and collaborative commissioning process with the client.

Is the Cadillac Celestiq overkill or necessary to compete with Rolls Royce and Bentley?
