Do we Need another choice in Intakes for the 472/500

The little blowers reguardless of bost level make alot of heat

An underdriven 8-71 would be about perfect and would be very reliable given that the engine is built for it(good parts) and well tuned.

With the 8-71 you are only a pully change away from changing the boost to where you want it, underdrive it for low boost, overdrive it to your hearts content .

The 177/250's are functionally maxed out on the Cad when you install them as well as being inadequate .

The visual wow factor of an 8-71 on top can only be beat by a 10/71 or larger in its place.

The only problem is being able to see around them. I know, I've been there with a 671 on my '69 Vette.

Nothing a little fabrication wouldn't solve...

Can't believe you guys would accept a sacrifice in performance when a few hours work on a Saturday afternoon would solve the problem. What's this board coming to??? :shakehead:

LOL Stan.

If I did a blown 500 it would be a 'street' motor. I have no real desire to have a track only vehicle (or trailer queen off-roader). I have just always wanted a blown motor. A child hood fantasy branded into my psyche by Mad Max. And It would be great to have a 500 will all forged parts and low boost that would last a long time and turn heads when I felt froggy.

A few years ago, I penciled out a 8-71 build for my car with the experienced assistance of Jerry Potter and Stan Justus. It became quickly obvious, for street and long cruise use, the 10-71 is a better choice due to lower heat build up and lower pumping losses. The greater output of the 10-71 allows it to run slower, produce the same boost, at the same intended engine rpm, than the 8-71 .

As you have said, build a strong bottom end, use a cam with good street manners, add the 10-71 and enjoy the envy and awe of others.

I'll have my 850 DP and 2115 manifold on the dragster to get some laps under my belt before I drop a blower on it . I'll be waiting to see what MTS cooks up for a new blower manifold .
Deans Blowers quoted me $ 800 for a re-furbed GMC 8-71 and $ 300 for the drive .
They have over 1700 e-bay sales with 100% positive remarks .
