This puts cyl #4 at firing position
> If i understand correctly i now will need to turn the crank one full turn until both dots are at 12 oclock. This should put me at t.d.c. on the compression stroke of #1. Correct?
Correct. Or, leave it as it was and install dist with rotor pointing to #4 wire.

Or, turn cam/crank so both marks are up when installing sprockets and you will be at #1 firing position. Imo, the 12/6 position install is used by GM to make it harder to screw up.

****** IMPORTANT - make sure that your oil pump gasket is no thicker than .008". Some gasket kits have a gasket made of thicker mat'l = lower oil pressure, harder to get pump to prime.
