What vehicle(s) do you drive?
Devill convertible 1969
Hello everybody!
This is a real good forum.
This is my first post.
I bought a deville convertible -69 with a 472 and i´m rubulding the engine and trans. (peanut dish piston)
I´m building it on a budget. It´s a cruiser but i want som ummph when i press down the pedal.
My ideas are stock intake manifold ( cut out the intkes where ther carb sits, if it´s worth it). Build Try-y headers, 2,5 dual exhaust with x-pipe.
My question is how big cam can you put in without do any work on stock heads and if you have any suggestions.
How many Hp do you think I can get?
I´m new to Cadillac but i´m learn as I go.
Thanks in advance.

I think the hardest part is too convince the wife that we need this uppgrades

I’m sure Julius will be along soon with his suggestions, but for a mild build I would suggest something like an MTS #5 cam. The issue is not the heads but if you go to a “big” cam you will have to upgrade the rocker arms and get a torque converter (transmission) with a bit higher stall speed.
A high compression 472 with this cam will get you as many one tire fires as your budget can handle.

No suggestions just facts

A 5 cam is about what 205 - 210 @.05

no point in headers.
And tri y headers will not be cheap

With a 472 and Mt5 you'll make about 280 hp- 290 hp @3500 rpm and 480 ft lbs or so @2800 or so

I wouldn't touch the intake at this level

Now here is a suggestion

Why not take the money you were going to spend on headers and put it toward a decent rocker setup to #1 help reliability and #2 put a actual cam in it and make 380 - 400 hp around 4600 rpm and 550 ft lbs around 3500 out of the same parts with your stock converter and hand ported exhaust manifolds ??

I say 400 if you put headers on at some point later

A little less torque below 2200 rpm and a giant pile more above

Btw
Anything can do a brake torque
