The point of these things is to be able to face the electrode towards the cylinder wall and leave the spark wide open to the chamber and air/fuel mixture. Do these things really do any good? I've tried a set and didn't really notice any difference, that is with the admittedly subjective ass dyno. Not only that, but when I took them out, my idle seemed to smooth out just a little. The only reason I can figure is that having the spacers in there put the plugs too far up into the threaded hole and gets them too far away from the chamber.
Potter, you have said here in the past that taking out even the washers with which the spark plugs come has been known to add 20 hp. Did you concern yourself with indexing the plugs when you did that? And do the plugs seal okay without their own washers?
Anyone else with thoughts on indexing washers, I'm all ears.
