I contacted 3 shops on driveshafts for my 84 chevy longbed c10 swap.  First comment from all on the length was go 2 piece, so I know 1 piece isn't best but I went with a 1 piece.

I had a local shop do the 4 inch diameter for own piece of mind instead of a less exp 3 or 3.5 inch diameter.  I actually dug up the orginal ds from the car that donated the 425 and th400 (not using the cad 425 except for misc items like pulleys and timing tab).  Turns out a long trans yoke was being used with a short tailhousing th400.  Makes me wonder if this is gm or a replacement trans.

But heres the pic taken of 3 driveshafts (left to right - orig cad, orig truck 3.5 and new truck 4).  I painted lines out of giggles just in case I can catch the ds twisting.  I know if it starts to twist it'll be gone in a second and no time to catch it before disentigrating.  I was going to paint it like a barber's pole .

02,

I bet that it'll do fine.

Fwiw - I have cut long tail yokes with an abrasive wheel and used them in short tails.

I was going to use the long yoke(aka cut), but in the pic the yoke is hard to see.  The orig cad ds has a 2 U joints back to back after the yoke.  So the yoke isn't really usable without some machining (it has a cup on the end away from the trans).

I would have kept the double joints too. Helps with alignment issues.
Works to jeep the shat and yoke at a constant velocity (and the pinion).
Only the connector between the joints experiences the different velocities.
