Hi, I have just purchased a good 1965 Cadillac Deville Convertible and am looking at lowering it.

Does anyone have any tips or advise, would be greatly appreciated.

Was thinking of using lowered front spindles if they are available.

Also want to confirm the wheel center PCD - is it 5 on 5" - this is what i lead to believe.

Also want to put on larger wheels and low profile tires, so can anyone suggest or give links to images. Do know whether to
go 19" dia or 20" dia wheels and dont know what width will fit or the best offset to use.

Thanks for any advise or tips, they will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, :beer2:

My advice would be to lower the car using an air ride system that will allow you to raise it back up while driving. I spent about $2100 on my air ride system but I didn't cut any corners. I'm sure it could be done cheaper just remember that you usually get what you pay for. :backinmyday:

You are correct, the bolt pattern is 5x5. You can go to http://www.coyswheel.com/coys.html. Contact them directly if you have any questions about the width of the rims you should use for the rear so the tires will clear the fender skirts. I would use 20" or 22" wheels as 19" wheels are a bit of an odd size and will be more expensive. :greedy:

EZ,
The only 65/66 Cadillac I ever seen with drop spindles and lowered maybe 2" the guy used 67-69 Camaro drop spindles and had no air ride. He stated it was a lot of work to make it all work. a number of years back when I wrote a letter with pictures and noted measurments then later called one of the after market disc brake companies to see if they had anything availible in a front disc kit that would work up to my 61 . Maybe Stainless steel brakes. A Tech/ engineer sent back iinfo with a sketch, some hand written information and some computer generated , copied diagrams with measurments. His recomendation was front spindles from I believe he stated a 1983 to 1987 Chevy truck would be be my best bet and work. They have the correct 5 x 5" lug pattern and from what his measurment determined in info he explianed exactly what I needed to do with just a small amount of work to bolt them up. From memory if I am not mistaken the biggest thing I would need to do is taper the spindles to accept the Cadillac ball joints. the steering arms ar reversable so no issues there cadillacs arms should bolt maybe have enlaging bolt holes . I may still have all that documentation and will look for it. This guy did spend like 3 weeks figuring it all out and called me a few imes to verify my information only because he was recovering from a motorcycle accident so had idle time on his hands and took it as was intersting challenge to see if anything simple could be made to work that was abuntantly availible. I believe 61-68 or 69 cadillacs front spindles are all bolt up. Eventually I droped that idea and was lucky and found a set of 68 or 69 front spindles and discs and went that way on my 61 convert. Maybe some of this is of help maybe not.. Nice car by the way. I love the 60's cadillac convertibles. Keep us posted on what you end up doing with the car.

IMHO wheels over 18" look dreadful under old nice Cadillacs, have considered 17 wheels for my Deville in order to upgrade brakes. Up to 20" would be normal for Escalade or better yet Escalade ESV. AS for lowering, AirRide or similar is the way to go.

Best regards,
Martin

Thanx so far for the input.

I have decided on fitting 22" x 10" wide alloys with Hankook 255/30/22 tires. Can anyone help with the best rim back space i will need to use, front and back ( rear wheel fenders fitted still )

Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thank you guys. :beer2:

I think your out there on your own on this forum when your asking about using 22" rims.

You might go to tirerack.com and look up the dimensions for the tires.

But a 10" wide rims will probably take some effort to fit in there.

You might have better luck asking around on some slammer forums than on here.

If you'll call the guys at www.coyswheels.com they will help you with the back spacing. Be sure to come back and post some pics of your car. I'd like to see it! :beer2:

Plug your tire size into the left hand side once it loads. Then you can play with wheel size and backspacing.
