One week ago today, I suffered a heart attack, crushing burning pain left side chest and shoulder. My wife took me to the local hospital. Within 20 minutes of arrival there I was in an ambulance headed to another hospital that had a cardiac catheter unit. Twenty minutes after arriving there a stent was put up into an artery of my heart through my groin and the heart attack was stopped.
Next day.
Four more stents were put into 2 more arteries for a total of 5 in 3 arteries. Those went in through my wrist.
I spent 5 days in hospital.
Today I went to see my family doctor to follow up. He's a friend and an old hot rodder wannabee.
As soon as he saw me ,right in the crowded waiting room, he shook my hand and said "Peter, you are one lucky bastard. Half don't survive what you did. The other half live on a long long time. "
On the way out he told me again how lucky I was. Party on and go build more hot rods. You've got brand new plumbing and lived.
I hope he's right.

Jeez Peter. Sorry to hear you had to go through that. But you pulled through. And like mentioned, you've got new plumbing. What kind of dietary changes did they suggest?

In a couple of months I'll start physio and some nutrition counselling will be given. Right now I'm supposed to walk. That's OK because I'm a walker anyways. My drivers license has been pulled for a month.

Wow!!! Mom was right. Getting old is not for sissies. My insurance company sends me a statement every month of how much I've cost them.
I feel no shame whatsoever cause I keep thinking of all my friends who've died after paying in a lot of money they couldn't use. LOL

Hello Peter,

I've let this posting rest for ten days, but wanted to follow up with you about it. The time delay in my speaking up was to allow myself time to stand back for a moment. I wanted to be clear in my perspective.
So, how are you doing? Have there been any more scares- or any updates from your doctors? And finally, how is your "head" doing? Having been where you have often causes a person to take stock of their life and its priorities. I hope that you are doing okay.

I'll leave it there for now, but wanted you to know that you are in my prayers.

Best,

d

Hey D
I'm doing fine. No issues at all with the heart ,damage to the heart muscle was minimal. Cardiologist doesn't want to see me for 2 months, its usually one month after. I really didn't have a heart problem, I had an artery problem.
I'm walking my dogs every day and I'm already back to the usual distance. I've also restarted my dog grooming business. It's not much but it puts cash in my pocket. One and a half hours of my time is $50 cash minimum. It can reach $80.
My head. Of course I've had some dark thoughts. I push them out with thoughts of pretty girls and loud hot rods. I also told my oldest boy where the cash was hidden in the house. And I suppose I'll rethink things a bit as far as future plans are concerned.
What I won't do is slip into despair. Screw that, get out of my way I'm not done yet.
I see my peers at the car shows, poor bastards, some are a mess and you can see the fear in their eyes. In some ways I'm in my prime.
Carry on and thanks for caring.
Peter

It's been one month since I was released from hospital. It's supposed to be a milestone of some sort. What I did get is my drivers license back. Tomorrow I'm going for the license sticker for the Ventura and it's coming out to play.

Hang in there, Peter. Sounds like your are right on track! Good job!

Last week I hand delivered the Dept. of Motor Vehicle "Health Form" that my cardiologist needs to sign off on for my driver's license to be valid again. That assumes of course that I also venture out to one of the DMV locations, take and pass their eyesight review. What is with these people? You have a little physical setback (cardiac event) and right away they figure you can't tie your own shoes any more.

I need to find a sample of that eye test on the Internet so I can memorize which way that darm E is facing: Up - right - left - down - up yours - toward China. Hope they have a sense of humor at the testing station.

(will someone please help me with my shoes?)

I got my drivers license back on Sunday and I got my sticker for the Ventura on Monday. But no play time. Too much salt dust on the roads.
Today I went to the hospital for a scheduled stress test. I lasted longer than most and that was with 72 year old lungs that were abused by cigarettes for 60 years.
I am one lucky bastard.
Oh mustn't forget, I stopped at the cashiers office to pay the bill for my 5 days in hospital. $16.70.

Bro. Peter,

The only three things Prettier Than That Car are:
the $16.70 hospital bill -
having 72 year old lungs that work -
GETTING YOUR LICENSE BACK!

Good On Ya!
