Hard to believe I finally own one of these.

It's getting a junkyard 472 with a .532/.290 cam and Edelbrock intake, a T56 6 speed, a 9" rear and dropped axle with discs up front. I hope to drive it to the LA Roadster show at the end of June. The body is worse than I thought it was going to be (bought it out of Hemmings) so I need to make sure nothing falls off it first.

Thanks all! It's a business coupe, a two seater. The motor is a '73 472 right out of the junkyard. I had the heads done, spring kit installed, Flash 300 cam, roller timing set, new oil pump, rear sump pan and in it goes. I can't even afford a shaft rocker deal for it. I also have a Currie 9" with 3.25 open gears, parallel leaf kit, dropped beam axle for the front with discs brakes and a tube shock kit.

This time around I got a T56 from a '99 LS1 powered F body. It came complete with the factory hydraulics, even the throwout bearing and still bled. The LS1 T56's used a normal push style clutch and the input shaft is normal length. The 166 tooth flywheel even fits inside the stock bellhousing. It's rated to 450 foot pounds like the other one I had but it looks to be a whole hell of a lot easier to work with than the LT1 T56. I was dead set against running another T56 but by the time I added up the expense of a Tremec TK0600 and everything else needed to make it work I was out of money. The whole '99 T56 cost me $900. I don't think it will handle many sidestep-the-clutch launches but I plan to take this car landspeed racing so hopefully it will survive.

Tim...I don't recall which T56 you have laying in your garage but I do remember writing you about how much of a bitch it was to make mine work. If yours is a later model ('98 and up) it looks like it'll work a whole bunch easier. I'll let you know how mine goes together.

I really regret not being able to take the roadster to the lakes, that's the main reason it got sold. It will be a lot easier to make the '36 SCTA legal. I'll post progress photos as tthey happen.

Mike...From the advice/warning you gave me about the LT-1 T56...I put the box  on E-bay and made 350 bucks over what I paid for it .I'll definately be watching how it goes with the LS-1 T-56 .I've also been looking at the NV4500 5 speed truck tranny.it has a .75 final on it,the 500 I had in my work truck was bolted to a nv4500 it worked fine.

Good to see your building a land speed car

Randy...I'm in Los Angeles, El Mirage is about an hour and a half from my place. I've only made a couple of guest passes there so far.

Cadiac...yeah, it's a beautiful car but I had to give so much $$$$ for it that everything else has to be on a really tight budget. That's why the junkyard 472!
