According to a new report, we’ll be seeing a Cadillac XLR with at least some minor exterior changes in July. The vehicle is do for at least a refreshening. However, reports also indicate a possibility of a new “launch”. In other words, an entirely new design “reveal” that would not be available for at least 8 months or so afterwards. Either way, it’ll be exciting to see Cadillac more forward with it’s sporty, luxurious roadster.

Also unclear at this moment is the XLR’s powerplant. Some speculation states that the new 3.6 liter direct injection engine will replace the Northstar. Another possibility, for the XLR-V, is the 550 horsepower LSa V8 from the upcoming CTS-V.

The nature of the redesign will help predict when we’ll see a new V-Series XLR. If July brings us a simple facelift, than we’ll likely see an entirely new design of both the XLR and XLR-V simultaneously. If we see an entirely new design, we can likely expect the V-Series model to debut about a year behind…

UPDATE: At this point it’s obvious that this is a slight refresh for the Cadillac XLR.

Updated with new images. The interior is looking slightly different… Unfortunately, this is about as far as the XLR goes. Once the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette is introduced, the Cadillac XLR is being dropped. The design for the 2nd generation was said to be “amazing” – but due to financial problems, never made it to production. Cadillac’s resources are now being poured into the DTS/STS replacement vehicle.

It’s looking more like a refresh to me. You can easily tell the front fascia is reminiscent of the new CTS.
